The Green Giant Arborvitae has a broad pyramidal growth habit. Its foliage is lustrous rich medium green in the summer and a yellow-brown-green in the winter. The Green Giant Arborvitae is a very fast growing evergreen tree. It's natural pyramidal form makes this tree dense with rich green foliage. The Green Giant Arborvitae makes a great landscape tree because it can be used as a screen, hedge, windbreaker or just to add elegance to your landscape. It is prefers moist-well drained soils however it can grow in a variety of soils. It also prefers to have sun with some shade.
The 'Green Giant' arborvitae is a large, vigorous, fast growing evergreen. It's natural pyramidal to conical form boasts dense, rich green foliage that darkens or bronzes only a little in the winter. This is an exceptional landscape tree for use as a screen, hedge, windbreak, or single specimen. It is tolerant of a wide variety of soils, but prefers moist, well drained soil, sun to partial shade. It is wind resistant once established and withstands heavy ice or snow loads. Under good growing conditions, it can grow up to 3' a year to a height of 50'-60' with a 12'-20' spread. Plant 5'-6' apart for very fast screen, otherwise 10'-15' a part. Zones 5-7.
The Green Giant Arborvitae can withstand heavy ice and snow once it is established in your landscape and is hardy to -25° F. It can also withstand drought when it is well established and doesn't show any significant signs of pest or disease problems. The Green Giant Arborvitae is deer and bagworm resistant. This tree can grow about 3' per year when it has great growing conditions. If you are looking to use the Green Giant Arborvitae as a hedge or privacy fence, you can plant them 5-6' apart for a very fast screen. If you are not looking to use it as a quick privacy fence, they should be planted about 10-15' apart.
